Six Situations That Send a 3PL Shopping
Nobody buys a pallet jack because it is Tuesday. Equipment gets bought when a lease is signed, a client is onboarded, a cold room is added, or a shift stops keeping up. Start from whichever one you are living through.

You signed a building and the first inbound trailer is scheduled before the racking is. Dock levelers, edge-of-dock plates, and dock boards get sized per door and bought together, so receiving is not the thing that holds up go-live.

Cross-Dock & Trailer Moves
Three units that read as a progression. The TE22 Li is a walk-behind lithium tractor rated 2,200 lb — the first machine that ends hand-pushing carts across a building. The T66N and T66Q are sit-down riders, both published at a 6,600 lb drawbar, which is the rating that matters once you are pulling a train rather than a single cart. Because the riders are rated on drawbar pull rather than lift, their cards below read “See specs” where a jack would show a capacity.

The Throughput Floor
Six machines that cover a fulfillment floor, listed cheapest first at catalog list price. A 2,200 lb manual stacker with 63 in of lift handles low racking with no battery to charge. A large platform stacker takes the cartons and totes that never touch a pallet. The two electric jacks are the 27-inch fork variants, which is what standard GMA pallets and most 3PL racking want. The two powered stackers reach 124 in at 3,000 and 3,500 lb. Every powered unit still needs a trained operator.

Cold Chain & Freezer Rooms
Cold storage carries the rate a 3PL wants on its invoice, and it is the fastest way to ruin ordinary equipment. Every trip in and out of a freezer leaves a machine wet, and painted steel gives up long before the drivetrain does. Two answers: an electric pallet truck built and rated for cold freezer rooms at 4,000 lb, and an all-stainless manual truck at 4,400 lb for the food-grade rooms where the washdown is as hard on equipment as the cold is.

What has to be ordered before a new 3PL building can take freight, and where each line starts in our catalog. Work it top to bottom — the dock is the part with the longest lead time and the one most often left until last.

How many jacks or tractors a building needs depends on the door count, the shift pattern, and the freight profile, and any rule of thumb we published would be wrong for most readers.
